Insulated Conductors Committee

The ICC Website is changing.  As this transition is made, our new format can be found at www.pesicc.org/ICCWP. Please send any comments or questions to mvh@voncorp.com.

This November, the Insulated Conductors Committee will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Over the last 50 years, the ICC has served its members well. Industry veterans and newcomers have worked together at ICC meetings to develop standards and guides that govern how electric cable systems are manufactured, installed and maintained. They have also used ICC meetings to introduce new ideas and technologies to each other and to help each other with perplexing problems that only cable engineers love to solve.

Now our industry is in the midst of significant change. Utilities are preparing for deregulation. In the process, many companies are merging, outsourcing and downsizing. Every day, new policies are introduced which dramatically affect how we conduct our business. And when we say "electric utility industry" we are no longer talking about companies doing business in the United States. Our industry is now truly a global industry.

To help assure that the ICC serves its members in the next 50 years as well as it did in the past 50 years, the officers have created the "On to 100 Committee." The objective of this committee is to review our activities and make appropriate changes to assure that the ICC is relevant for today's and tomorrow's business environment.

This committee consists of the 13 ICC members listed below:

These individuals represent a broad range of interests within the ICC and each has indicated a desire to make changes that will maximize the benefits of being an ICC member.

To initiate the process of improving the ICC, the On to 100 Committee held its first meeting during the Spring 1997 ICC in Scottsdale, AZ. The agenda for that meeting is shown below.

  1. Review ICC Mission and Scope
  2. Review Comments from Committee Members
  3. Outline Activities Which Should Be Fixed
  4. Outline Activities Which Should Be Deleted
  5. Outline Activities Which Should Be Added
  6. Develop Procedure for Promoting the ICC

From this meeting, the committee developed a number of ideas for improving the ICC. These ideas include the need to:

The committee is now working on ways to implement these ideas. To start the process, the following activities have occurred:

This is just the beginning. There is still much to do and the On to 100 Committee is now working to make more needed changes to ICC activities. The committee is dedicated to preserve those things that are good about the ICC and working to fix those things that need improvement. However, we need your help to make it work. If you have any ideas on how to improve the ICC or if you have any comments about the changes which are beginning to occur, please email the ICC Vice Chairman, Rick Hartlein at r.hartlein@ieee.org or contact any of the On to 100 Committee members. We need your assistance to make ICC a strong, viable organization for the next 50 years!
