The working group met on May 16th, with three members and two guests in attendance. Chairman John White was unable to attend the meeting which was conducted by Scott Groesbeck in his absence. The group is revising IEEE 634, and Draft 5 of the document was released at the meeting. There were no major changes between drafts 4 and 5. Draft 5 was generated to correct typographical errors and to insert electronic figures into the document in preparation for balloting.
During the meeting recent insights pertaining to the adverse effects of positive furnace pressure were discussed. Specifically, recent industry fire testing indicates that seal materials that erode when subjected to fire deteriorate at a faster rate when tested in a positive furnace pressure environment.
The meeting was adjourned after a brief question and answer period. The meeting lasted approximately 1 hour.
The working group met on October 31st, with four members and three guests in attendance. Scott Groesbeck conducted the meeting. The group is revising IEEE 634, and Draft 5 of the document (released at the spring 2000 meeting) was reviewed in detail.
Discussions focused on the need to develop a Preface or Foreward to provide important background information pertaining to the evolution of this standard. Additionally, recommendations were made to move Section 9.0 to an Appendix that provides guidance not rules for penetration seal qualification. A need for further clarification on the terms F and T ratings, as well as the applicability of these ratings, was noted.
