The group met at 10:45 AM on Wednesday 17, 2000. 34 people were present. The interest of the attendees in the subject was high. Mr. Swapan K. Dey from Keypan Energy accepted to be the co-chairman for the WG when and if it becomes official. The following comments were made:
- The WG name should be changed to widen its scope. A title like " Real time monitoring and dynamic rating of cable system" seems to be more acceptable
- Opinions were mixed concerning the scope of the WG. Some wanted to stick to the original objectives using DTS (Distributed Temperature Sensing) coupled with dynamic loading. Others expressed interest in widening the scope to include real time monitoring of other parameters like: voltage, current, oil pressure, leak detection, cathodic protection, etc..
- I will be preparing a draft of the WG scope based on these comments for discussion in the next meeting;
- The majority of attendees prefer to wait for the next meeting before making official the WG and having a number in subcommittee C;
- Several people expressed interest in technical presentations next meeting, including several manufacturers. Swapan and I will go over the list and choose 2 or 3 between them.
The Group met on Tuesday, October 31 at 10:30 AM with more than 62 members and guests attending.
The session was opened with two presentations by two leading manufacturers of distributed temperature monitoring system and was followed by interactive discussions amongst the group members and guests. Most of the members requested to limit the scope to monitoring and dynamic rating of cables only. It was also agreed upon that the guide should be developed in two steps:
Monitoring of temperature of cable systems and communication of monitored data;
Determination of rating of cable systems based on the measured data.
It was also proposed that the first step be carried on within 2 to 3 years.
The title of the working group, according to the majority of the members, should be changed to: Guide for Temperature Monitoring and Dynamic Rating of Cable Systems.
Note: Of the 62 attendee, 22 members have manifested an interest in participating to the development of the guide.
