Insulated Conductors Committee

 A(Group)- Minutes

Spring 1998

The working group met Monday, April 6, 1998 at 9:10 am with 61 members and guests recorded on the attendance sheets. In the absence of the chair, the meeting was conducted by the Vice Chair.

Mr. Lauri J. Hiivala presented a summary of the process for development of ANSI/ICEA Publication S-94-649-1997, "Standard For Concentric Neutral Cables Rated 5 Through 46 kV". This document was available January 30, 1998.

The process for development was depicted in the flow charts entitled "Existing Process for Utility Cable Standards Development". A copy is included in these Minutes (page 2-2) and was previously in the Fall ’97 Minutes (page 2-4).

The "UPCSTAC" (Utility Power Cable Standards Technical Advisory Committee) group is now developing a Draft of ICEA S-97-682, "Utility Shielded Power Cables Rated 5 Through 46 kV". This is following the same procedure as had been established for S-94-649-1997.

A sample of responses to some questions posed during open discussion is summarized below.

  • At future meetings a review of technical highlights of documents in process will be conducted, as had been done in St. Petersburg (Fall ’97).

  • ICEA S-97-682 is expected to be ready for ANSI ballot by Fall ’98 ICC meeting.

  • 1999 is target for issue of revised 1st drafts of AEIC CS5 and CS6 for XLPE and EPR cables, respectively.

  • No official input from IEC as the ICEA standards are primarily North American standards.

  • ICEA documents can be put into an IEC format.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 am.
